I have two computers. one is XP pro, the other XP home. likely there are some 'non-standard' softwares installed to the xp home system (this is not my own pc, so im less familiar with the variety of software installed to it).
on both pcs, the 'c:\documents and settings\user\sendto' folder contains a 'shortcut'. this shortcut's 'target' field is defined as: c:\perl\bin\perl.exe "c:\perlsrc\sendto\script.pl" and 'script.pl' is defined as: $display_this_cmd_screen_until_user_hits_enter_key = <STDIN>; POSITIVE (DESIRED) RESULT on the xp pro system: a. using explorer, I double-click the shortcut in the 'sendto' folder and this invokes script.pl, a cmd window appears as topmost window, and it remains displayed until I press the 'enter' key. b. I next run explorer, right-click on some file, explorer menu appears, I next click 'send to - perl.exe' this invokes script.pl, a cmd window appears as topmost window, and it remains displayed until I press the 'enter' key. POSITIVE (DESIRED) RESULT on the xp home system: c. using explorer, I double-click the shortcut in the 'sendto' folder and this invokes script.pl, a cmd window appears as topmost window, and it remains displayed until I press the 'enter' key. FAILURE TO WORK ON XP HOME SYSTEM: d. I next run explorer, right-click on some file, explorer menu appears, I next click 'send to - perl.exe'. for the blink of an eye, a cmd window quickly flashes up as topmost window, then immediately disappears. taskmgr, when started does not show script.pl or cmd as running the script.pl program does not actually execute. even if ive changed code in 'script.pl' to be merely sleep(10); the cmd window comes up and immediately goes away. there is no syntax error in the 'script.pl' file as these are simple one-liners. does anyone have any clue why this might happen? or what to check? im running same version of active perl, 5.8.822 (if memory serves me well)
