There's no bleeding edge in repositories: in fact, CPAN has development
versions but they are not usually included in any repository. So you may
want to add them all, so PPM will chose the latest version. Moreover,
with many repositories, you may be able to install some old version of a
module, if needed and available.

You may want to use Randy Kobes' UWinnipeg repository to install some
modules which rely on external libraries: libxml2, mod_perl,
cryptographic ones. Actually, it's a must.
You should use Activestate's as it provides many "main purpose" modules.
My repository (trouchelle.com) tries to enlist any possible module from
CPAN, so you can find something rare. There are other repositories that
you may want to add to PPM if you are about to using some specific
modules, like wxperl for using Wx.

So, more repositories == more modules to install. Personally, I'm using
everything provided with PPM::Repositories for 5.10.
