I've got a Perl compiled with mingw. The Makefile that Makefile.PL
generates for a module contains OTHERLDFLAGS which has a substring
"-Wl,--image-base,0x022F0000". In one case I noticed that the DLL the
Makefile created refused to load with "illegal access to a memory
location". I studied the issue with dependencywalker (
http://www.dependencywalker.com/) which said among other things that the
"preferred base" was different from "actual base". The preferred base
was the address in the image-base. This wasn't the only such DLL which
had this issue, though. In any case, I copied the actual base to the
Makefile and compiled the DLL again. This time it loaded ok.

Can anybody give me advice on what's going on here?
