Greetings perl-win32-users,

Windows actually allowed a run away script to overwrite my perl5.6 so
I had to install again and decided to upgrade to 5.8.8

Now, most of my tk scripts do not work. It seems that the old perl was
a little less strict about certain syntax errors so I have to correct
them all. Two questions.

Can I be lazy, is there a switch to allow was was passed on by 5.6?

Here is something else that stopped working. This snippet of code puts
names into a TK listbox. It worked fine in 5.6. Now I get an error
that '' isn't numeric at C:/Perl/site/lib/Tk.pm line 252. Commenting
out "$mainlist * insert ('end'' ,$temp[0]" eliminates the error. My
out 2001 TK book does not suggest that anything is wrong with the
systax. Any ideas? *(I left the -> out of the line above because
typing it, in some places drives my e-mail editor nuts)

  $mainlist = $presetlist->Scrolled("Listbox",
        -scrollbars=> "e",
        -exportselection=>0,
        -selectmode=> "single",
        -height=> 5,-width=>32)
        ->pack(-side=>'left');

    # go through the @db array and take off the name parts and insert them
    # do this by using split to a temp array and using just the first
value
    #print"\nin listbox sub\n";

        for ( my $i = 0 ; $i < @db ; $i++ ) {
            my @temp =split ( /,/, $db[$i] );
                  $mainlist->insert('end',$temp[0]),;
                       }

    $mainlist->selectionSet($init_array[2]);
    $mainlist->see($init_array[2]);
    $selected = $mainlist->curselection;

 p.s. I have told the e-mail client to make this plain text. It is
beyond my control if it arrives as HTML.
