Hi, It's not exactly clear to me that it's necessarily an '@-' bug. Maybe it's a regex bug ... or some other bug.
The code: use warnings; $foo = 'ffooooo'; $foo =~ /o/g; print "@-"; __END__ On my windows 2000 box I have a MinGW-built perl 5.8.7, a VC++7.0-built perl 5.8.7, AS build 810 (perl 5.8.4), and AS build 815 (perl 5.8.7). On the first 3 of those 4 builds of perl, the above script simply hangs, and then segfaults when I kill (Ctrl-C) it. With build 815, however, it runs correctly and outputs '2'. Does anyone know in precisely which version of AS perl the problem gets fixed ? Presumably it's one of the 5.8.7 builds .. but which one ? And does anyone know just what it is that fixes the problem ? There's a bit of a discussion on this on c.l.p.misc in the thread "When were @- and @+ added". Without the 'g' modifier, the problem disappears. Use of warnings and strict can also have an effect on the behaviour. Actually ... it has just *now* been pointed out (on c.l.p.misc) that AS build 815 *is* afflicted by this (but not in exactly the same way as the other builds) - which sort of makes my questions irrelevant. I'll post this anyway as someone here might have some useful observations/information. Here's a demo of the build 815 affliction: D:\pscrpt>perl -e "use strict; use warnings; 'foo' =~ /o/g; print scalar @-" 22872545 D:\pscrpt>perl -e "use warnings; 'foo' =~ /o/g; print scalar @-" 786437 Cheers, Rob _______________________________________________ Perl-Win32-Users mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe: http://listserv.ActiveState.com/mailman/mysubs
