On my MinGW-built perl (5.8.7), $Config{ld} is set to 'g++', but
site/lib/ActivePerl/Config.pm sets $Config{ld} to 'gcc'. Consequently,
libwin32-0.26 fails to build for me on AS build 815 because of a large
number of errors (in Win32::ODBC) such as the following:

gcc -o
..\blib\arch\auto\Win32\ODBC\ODBC.dll -Wl,--base-file -Wl,dll.base -mdll
CMom.o Constant.o CResults.o ODBC.o -Wl,--image-base,0x61200000
E:\Perl815\lib\CORE\perl58.lib -lkernel32 -luser32 -lgdi32 -lwinspool -lcomd
lg32 -ladvapi32 -lshell32 -lole32 -loleaut32 -lnetapi32 -luuid -lws2_32 -lmp
r -lwinmm -lversion -lodbc32 -lodbccp32 -lmsvcrt -lodbccp32 dll.exp
CMom.o(.text+0x3c):CMom.cpp: undefined reference to `operator new[](unsigned
int)'
CMom.o(.text+0x4d):CMom.cpp: undefined reference to `operator new[](unsigned
int)'
CMom.o(.text+0xeb):CMom.cpp: undefined reference to `operator
delete[](void*)'
.
.
ODBC.o(.text+0x10e6e):ODBC.cpp: undefined reference to
`__gxx_personality_sj0'
ODBC.o(.text+0x10f38):ODBC.cpp: undefined reference to `operator
new(unsigned int)'
ODBC.o(.text+0x10f90):ODBC.cpp: undefined reference to `operator
delete(void*)'
ODBC.o(.text+0x117ec):ODBC.cpp: undefined reference to `operator
delete(void*)'

If I change site/lib/ActivePerl/Config.pm so that $Config{ld} gets set to
'g++', then the gcc command at the beginning of the above quote is replaced
by an otherwise identical g++ command, and libwin32-0.26 builds fine.

It's probably no big deal that libwin32-0.26 won't build, as it's already
built into ActiveState perl, but I suspect there may be other modules that
suffer similarly from 'ld' being set to 'gcc' ..... though I couldn't
actually find another example.

With the modules that I've built (and there have been many), I've yet to
find any problem arising from $Config{ld} being set to 'g++'.

Cheers,
Rob
