That was also an option given some consideration. But often people opened an older version, looked up something, *saved* and closed the file. Not everyone does that but even 1 person is enough to occasionally mess up the modification times.
We have had a lengthy discussion on advantages and disadvantages of some sorting methods but they had decided on the one I mentioned in my previous posts.
