Sorry, no idea (and no time to dig into it now either). I remember that
using events with MS Agent objects didn't work correctly with Win32::OLE,
but didn't ever spend the time to figure that one out either. I believe
those objects needed to be embedded in a real GUI application to fire
events correctly or something.
I can imagine that for MSAgent this is necessary indeed (because it's actually a GUI component). The SAPI5 stuff however doesn't need a GUI (I've seen it used from other programming languages like VBScript and Delphi without GUIs).

It is possible that the SAPI stuff has the same problem. Or maybe the
interface for the events is not correct. Did you try to leave out the
interface spec and let Win32::OLE determine the default source for the
object?
I started out by leaving out the interface specification, but that didn't work. Then I tried every single object class that SAPI5 provides to get the Events from, but none worked. I've even tried to create the recognition context in a totally different way (first creating a listener and do a CreateRecoContext from that and then trying to catch the events), but it simply doesn't seem to work.

I've even seen a Python implementation that worked with this (actually, I've even tried to translate that piece of code to Perl/Win32::OLE), but while the Python code is reported to work, the Perl translation simply does nothing. So I wonder, what are the Python people doing right that Win32::OLE doesn't?
