Any idea why this module is missing from 5.6 (the only version I have ever
installed)? Is this module being deprecated/replaced/frowned upon with a big
bad ugly frown?
Looks like there are several other packages at this site that are not in the
5.6 install. Also, PPM was unable to find this shell module, so it makes me
wonder....

I'm a bit late with this but you can get the missing shell module from
Activestate at http://www.ActiveState.com/ppmpackages/5.005/zips/
Its a module for running the Windows Explorer Shell commands.
