Thanks for the info. In the meantime I got the tip from the mailing list to try zil_disable. This brings good performance. Next we will try to reinstall OpenSolaris with raid-z2 instead of Hardware Raid 6. Hopefully this solves the issue. Otherwise a separate ZIL device sounds like a good option.
