Hi,

Just installed 2009.06 and encounter 100% kernel usage when I copy large files
from the network to a zpool. I have tried to use both the smb client and rsync
to do the transfer.

The transfer begins with no issues, however, after 20-30 seconds, kernel usage
(as indicated by top) jumps to 99%-100% and stays there, even if I terminate
the transfer. When the kernel usage is that high, the system will slowly
respond to some commands in a shell, but will not allow any logins or su
commands to execute. If I leave the system, sometimes it will return to a
normal kernel usage, othertimes, I have to reboot the box. There doesn't seem
to be any disk activity when the kernel hits 100%.

I first suspected a problem with the e1000g network driver, however, the
problem still persists if I change it to RealTek Gb card. I have tried to do a
dd copy from /dev/null to the zpool, however, that doesn't seem to exhibit the
problem; it only seems to happen during a network transfer to the zpool.

I'm not sure how to diagnose the issue as I am a beginner Solaris user, hoever,
this problem didn't seem to exist under the same hardware running Ubuntu.

I'm not quite sure if this is solely a network issue, a zfs issue, or a
combination of both. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Specs:
1Gb RAM
AMD X2 939 socket with ATI RS chipset (Integrated Graphics)
PCIe Intel e1000
PCIe Realtek GB ethernet
PCI ITE8212 IDE card (with ATA bios)

Thanks!
