It is not wise to use tests using an apple to make decisions regarding what will happen with an orange. I don't think that your conclusion that performance on your rather old T1 8 core CPU is "poor" compared to this recent vintage 4 core Xeon is well justified. It has done rather well given the huge difference in clock rates and the foundary process used to manufacture the chips.
