Hi, folks! I do have a ASUS P5PE Motherboard with Intel Pentium IV 3Ghz HT running OpenSolaris 2008.05.
Right now everything is correctly configured (video, sound, network and so on), but the processor speed is stuck at 3Ghz. This is very annoying because processor is getting hot, sound is increasing and coolers never stop, even when machine is doing nothing. I saw OpenSolaris support Intel Speedstep on Pentium IV processors, but appear not be working with my processor. The problem can be the configuration (I have configured the BIOS to allow Operating System to control CPU speed)? The result of kstat is: $ kstat -m cpu_info -s supported_frequencies_Hz module: cpu_info instance: 0 name: cpu_info0 class: misc supported_frequencies_Hz 3000135577 module: cpu_info instance: 1 name: cpu_info1 class: misc supported_frequencies_Hz 3000135577 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, appear OpenSolaris could not recognize the processor. The "cpu_info" returns: $ kstat -m cpu_info module: cpu_info instance: 0 name: cpu_info0 class: misc brand Intel(r) Pentium(r) 4 CPU 3.00GHz chip_id 0 clock_MHz 3000 clog_id 0 core_id 0 cpu_type i386 crtime 39,69553059 current_clock_Hz 3000135577 family 15 fpu_type i387 compatible implementation x86 (chipid 0x0 GenuineIntel F65 family 15 model 6 step 5 clock 3000 MHz) model 6 ncore_per_chip 1 ncpu_per_chip 2 pkg_core_id 0 snaptime 2294,861257761 state on-line state_begin 1212681971 stepping 5 supported_frequencies_Hz 3000135577 vendor_id GenuineIntel module: cpu_info instance: 1 name: cpu_info1 class: misc brand Intel(r) Pentium(r) 4 CPU 3.00GHz chip_id 0 clock_MHz 3000 clog_id 1 core_id 0 cpu_type i386 crtime 42,516995913 current_clock_Hz 3000135577 family 15 fpu_type i387 compatible implementation x86 (chipid 0x0 GenuineIntel F65 family 15 model 6 step 5 clock 3000 MHz) model 6 ncore_per_chip 1 ncpu_per_chip 2 pkg_core_id 0 snaptime 2294,862600155 state on-line state_begin 1212681974 stepping 5 supported_frequencies_Hz 3000135577 vendor_id GenuineIntel -------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for your support!
