I scanned through the sadc code for the some network related suff ... nothing :-(
More than half of my jobs are performance related, so over the years I've seen most of the tools on the market - SE Tool kit, percollator, orcallator, teamware, big brother etc. They all have their strengths. The normal problem with gathering system utilization data is, that we're talking about productive systems. Installing tools and running them in a root context on a productive system would be a change in the system and that's somthing most customers don't like at all. It requires a change request, evaluation and an approval, which will take *some* time. When you have to dig deeper, this is sometimes necessary. But for a first view, there should be a tool, shiped with the OS to gather some data. I agree, that sar is by far not detailed enaugh to really break down a nasty performance issue, but it gives a good first view - except network. Since sar data is OS release dependend, modifications in data structures should be no big issue, because you don't have to worry about backward compatibility. Do you know a good place to address this problem?
