I hate to rain on the parade, but isn't this whole thread moot?  Even if 
someone made or discovered the perfect benchmark, isn't it verboten to compile 
it?  I’m assuming that the clause in the Sun Studio 10/10 license means that no 
one can compile the benchmarks and publish them, n’est pas?

Being able to do benchmarks (free as in beer or otherwise) but not talk about 
them is like dating a supermodel and not being able to tell anyone.

If I’m wrong, please let me know.  I’d love to be wrong, but I don’t think I am.

If the above clauses were removed, then we could do real “Free, Fair, & Open 
Benchmarking,” but I don’t imagine we’ll see Sun’s lawyers allow that anytime
