Thank you for your responses. This system is a backup system's extremely busy media server and is a controlled one, without any quick lived processes. In any case, I went through previous (automated) ps traces and confirmed the absence of short lived processes (whatever information I have)
Adrian -- your suggestion is an intriguing one. You must be be referring to this patch and infodoc: http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-26-101331-1 I confirmed that the customer has indeed installed patch 117171-17 and therefore is somewhat mitigated by fsflushd's extra CPU load every 30 seconds or so. When we install & run our kernel driver running at a high SYS priority, we bring the system down to its knees during periods of heavy network (TCP/IP) load. Otherwise, our driver does its thing and everything is OK under lower network loads.
