Actually 128K is(was ?) the default value on sparc.  On x86 is was 56KB.  I 
believe that both these have some baggage.  I cannot recall the exact reason 
for 128K, but the 56KB on x86 was because some devices could not handle a 64KB 
DMA transfer. It would roll over the count. Hence it was reduced to 56KB. This 
is going back to Solaris 2.5.1 days.  However even as recent as Solaris 9, 
there were certain devices where a 1MB transfer would hose them up.   However 
with the recent changes to x86/x64, these limits are a bit dated.   In Nevada, 
some SVM default have been  increased.  For example, the default size of 
stripes have been increased.
