I have no problem with slower lenses, because I often use 400 speed film, and don't want the expense or the weight of the faster lenses.
It's certainly not "nonsense" to prefer faster lenses, however. There are good reasons for that extra stop (as I am often reminded when I travel), especially if you don't carry a tripod. There were a number of times I've been in cathedrals just hanging around the minimum hand-holding speed. For that very reason I am a big fan of my 50 1.4. It's relatively cheap sharp and fast, and I can pull it out when I have that need for speed, focal length be damned. If you can afford them and don't mind the weight, I think they are obviously the way to go. If you can afford them, the slower lenses give great results, but have that tripod ready. My upcoming travle kit for Ireland will be 20-35 f4 50 f1.4 100 f2.8 (It's heavy but I love it and the bokeh is very good) MZS &ZX7 bodies Tripod & cable release Steven Desjardins Department of Chemistry Washington and Lee University Lexington, VA 24450 (540) 458-8873 FAX: (540) 458-8878 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
