Hi Wallace, AFAIK, the 1400 requires the main battery to be located in the bay for the PRAM battery to charge, hence using the PB on AC from the wall without a main battery in the bay will result in the PRAM battery eventually going flat, and possibly producing spurious problems, possibly even the machie refusing to boot. Very definitely the 1400 should be used purely on battery I would say at least once a month.
