This was an Annular eclipse. The moon is not quite close enough to earth to completely cover the sun, leaving an annulus - a thin ring of sun visible around the moon at maximum.

The one next April will be a TOTAL eclipse & should have the diamond ring.

Wasn't as difficult as I thought it was going to be. One of my schemes
