The photo of your grandmother is not sharp, so not much is gained by any resolution > 300. The pic of your granddad is likely a professional photo and this will provide somewhat more details at higher resolution (> 300). However what gets worse is that part of the right side of his face is shown to be covered with weathering effects of the picture surface (fungi?), which makes the end result at higher resolutions unacceptable in my opinion as it would not be easy to retouch. Sharpening and adding more contrast in photoshop will make this weathering even worse.
