Sorry 'bout your mom.

The good news is that I’ll be driving up to the Oregon coast tomorrow, a
place that I’ve found very rich in photographic opportunities.
The fraught news is that I’m doing so to bury my mother who passed away this
morning. She was 90 years old, and over the past few years there was less
and less of her there. In short she had a critical case of time to go. My
emotions are a mixture of pain and relief, but I’ve basically said goodbye
for the last time every time I’ve seen her for the past four years.
I also got fired today. I’ve been hating my job more every day for a while
now, so this also isn’t entirely bad news. Finances may get a bit tricky for
a bit, but with luck I’ll be able to get a new job that is actually in my
career. Even light construction is nowhere near as much fun at 60 as framing
houses was when I was 20.
One bit of unequivocal good news, my Pentax 18-270 lens arrived today. It’s
been a bit awkward carrying both the 16-50 and the 55-300 on my bike, plus
I’d invariably have the wrong lens mounted for whatever photo presented
itself. A few days ago I found it on Ebay for $200 and I decided that buying
it would be one of my better mistakes this week. We’ll see how the IQ works
out. If it is as good as my Tamron 18-250 was it should definitely be
adequate. I do wish it were weather sealed, but I’m less likely to ride my
bike in the rain.
