If you can afford this then that's fine for you. Many people can't or just don't want to shell out so much money.
I've just replaced a 2007 MBP bought used from a friend and it has given me over 7 years of good service. Still working, mind you. Just got a bit slow with newer LR versions and the larger files from the K-3.
Now, I've got a mid-2012 MBP, maxed out RAM-wise and with a decent SSD. Paid 800 euros for a machine that looks as if it had just been unwrapped, from a renowned dealer with a 1 year warranty.
