You don't need to upgrade the whole computer if it's still got decent specs, and you've got an available PCIe slot an add in USB 3 card can be had pretty cheaply. Of course that only works if you've got a desktop machine.  On the other hand if you're doing your downloading and editing on a laptop, there's no helping you.

The new reader is something like 6 times faster.
I'm very good about upgrading computers, I've done a computer upgrade every other camera, but peripherals like card readers not so much.
