Alan, first of all, thanks for the reference, it means some people liked my photo-puzzle idea. :-)

As Larry, wrote, the resolution is limiting cognitive abilities here.
My guess was it was an awl. But then, I started wondering if it could be some mammal, like a wolf (or thinking about your location, - maybe hyena?).

So, I decided to "ask Google" in the hopes that its image-recognition AI might have some insights.
(You can do reverse image search: https://images.google.com/ )
The result made me chuckle. (I didn't enter "Close-up", only the image's URL https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/828/41287819085_297ed2db2f_m.jpg . Google figured it out... and then it did the rest.)
