JCO, I just read this tidbit in the Photo.net discussions on the 2450.
"The 2450 can resolve grain, but it's also a matter of film type and finding an area where it shows up more readily. Keep in mind that above 1800-2000 dpi, the 2450 really starts interpolating so the grain will soften up a bit. Also, on the three 2450s I've tried the plane of focus was slightly different on all three. two were close and looked pretty good, but one was noticeably poorer. I've included a sample scan with an unsharpened 2400 dpi inset at 100%. You can definitely see the grain, but it's starting to mush out a bit due to the interpolation." This could account for why you seem to be getting better scans than I was. I was always scanning at 2400 dpi and perhaps the plane of focus was bad in my unit. The general consensus of the posters was that the 2450 was a good scanner for the price, but the scans were still on the soft side. To get really good MF scans you're gonna have to spend the bucks! Someday, when I'm through buying 67 glass... Bruce - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions.
