That's what I did in my example the filter used was red. I've played with it a bit more, and a virtual green filter maintains the tones of the original in B&W better, and a virtual dark orange filter is a better compromise. Maintains more detail in the shadows, while not darkening the sky quite as much. I'd post that one but I've already messed quite enough with Dan's image without actual permission.
