The BBC are marking the start of filming, not the date it was first shown. I watched it when we lived in Gibraltar, aged 10/11, before I started at boarding school in England, which was in 1968, when both my older siblings were already there. My parents left me to babysit my younger brother while they went out for the evening (but still on the RAF base) and I sat glued to the TV watching this incomprehensible but fascinating program.
