The MZ-3 was originally intended for the Japanese domestic market only where 
they were going to sell the MZ-5 and the MZ-3, but not the MZ-5N. The -5N 
was meant for export. Pentax Corp. in the US made the decision not to sell 
the MZ-3 in the US because of the price. This was a sales/marketing 
decision. However, because of the number of requests from European 
distributors, Pentax Europe added the MZ-3 to their stock assortment - 
selling it (initially) as a kit with the 43mm.
