I don't know how backward-compatible they might be but the new ones don't look compelling over what I have anyway. I am highly disturbed by the 21.5" iMacs moving to soldered memory (27" still uses sockets, thankfully). Not being able to upgrade is a deal-killer for me (it's why I don't want another MBP) and I'm worried they might sneak that "feature" into more products in the future.
