Thanks for the replies. All of this seems kinda obvious, after the
fact, but it never occurred to me that these resources would be open
to non-members and I always assumed one would have to be a paying
member to have such access. That being said, it would be good to
contribute to these organizations (with or without using their
facilities) but I'm not currently in a great place to be able to do
this.

We do have an Audubon center not far down the road (
http://rowe.audubon.org ) which is always busy during the spring
Sandhill Crane migration, but would probably welcome photographers
year round. I'll have to ask.

There is also a lot of wetland in the area that has been purchased by
the Nature Conservancy. I see they even have a special page about the
Platte River Prairies:
http://www.nature.org/ourinitiatives/regions/northamerica/unitedstates/nebraska/placesweprotect/platte-river-prairies.xml

And, yes, Nebraska Parks and Rec would be a great call to make also.
Sheesh, I feel dumb not pursuing any of these opportunities before
now.

For those following along (because I like to provide VALUE to your
PDML reading experience)
:)
here are a couple of good links on bird photography (one fairly short
but full of great tips and the other a whole hour presentation (plus).
Enjoy!

Also, if anyone has any experience photographing from a duck blind
(what to take, etiquette, etc) then I'm all ears!

Life is too short to put up with bad bokeh.
