Recently Geoff Moes and met to compare recent acquisitions. He brought his Pentax SMC 28-135/4 PKA zoom (77mm filter), I my Rikenon 28-100/4 (67mm filter).
The views through the viewfinder looked similar in brightness and clarity. Geoff pointed out that the Rikenon vignettes with my 67-to77mm minimalist hood; you could actually see the corners of the hood. He sensed a silght vignetting even without the hood, but being a color print shooter I'm not sensitive to such things. Everyone talks of how the 28-135/4 is such a big monster it's not really a walkaround lens. Well, I must tell you, it's only about 4mm longer than the Rikenon! Yes, at 820 g it's heavier, but it feels, at most, 150 g heavier. I hope to weigh it soon at a Post Office. I recently reported on my 15 minutes spent with a Tamron 28-135 f/4-4.5 (67mm filter). The Tamron is about the same size as the Rikenon but midway between the Pentax and the Rikenon in weight. The short end is more like 31 or 32mm. Conclusion: If you've been put off by the 28-135 PKA's weight, you won't find the Tamron much lighter. If you've been put off by the PKA's size, you won't find the Tamron or the Rikenon much smaller. Now if I could get my hands on a Tokina ATX 28-135/4 (1877, 77mm filter) and Tokina 28-135 f/4 to 4.6 (1990s)....
