I wondered about the algae. There must be nutrients for it to thrive. Midnight spirit parties?

Here is... (drum roll)... the main Roman bath.

The original plumbing feeds and drains it, and the original (lead) lining has never leaked.

The Romans built a huge roof (long gone) over the whole complex. Without it, algae grows in the water (which is about 100F/38C) and gives it a lurid green color. Hence the B&W rendering.
