When I read your description I thought "I hope there is something in the
photo for a sense of scale." And yep the decaying truck is the perfect
marker. Nice! Please keep the little bugs on your own homeland.
I have seen the effects of our local termites. They can hollow out wood
in a house so well it is not safe to walk across the oak floor. We also
have carpenter ants here. But they are easier to spot as they leave
behind piles of sawdust.

I think these are cathedral termites. We passed an unbelievable number of
their mounds, which ranged from ankle-height to ones like these which would
have been well over my head.
