It has been called that by many. In fact, there is a Flickr Group
which is devoted to just this lens. The group is named "SMC Pentax-A
35-105mm f3.5 Zoom: The Stack of Primes".

I've noticed that is is an effective lens in both sunlight and
overcast conditions. (Sometimes it seems you can have one or the
other).
