Hi Mike,
The simple/quick method to test your setup is to:
Mount all the equipment on your camera.
Set the shutter speed to "B".
Open the back (no film here).
Fire the shutter and sight through the lens from a frame corner and look for
any obsturctions. Stop the lens down and if the hood is not obscured by the
diaphragm opening at normal aperatures, your are safe.
