Although I couldn't open the referenced page, I'm sure that this is not the case. In 2000 they announced 2,000 to 2,500 job cuts - mostly in Japan and many through early retirements. Efforts have also been made in Europe to reduce the number of employees at the various Pentax subsidiaries.
