In the south of Egypt a few years ago we were served coffee in a Nubian style restaurant - fascinating degree of ceremony in making the coffee, which had to be poured from one container to another several times. IIRC, the resulting brew was very strong, but not bitter.
I do prefer my Italian coffee made in a plunger (aka French press) though - first cup due in half-an-hour! If you've never experienced it then I urge you to book a meal in your local Blue Nile restaurant and make sure you order coffee.
