I have an LX motor drive that saddly does not work. It LOOKS in excellent condition but there is a little corrosion on the bottom mounting screws (and only on the bottom) that speaks of interactions with seawater (consistent with the units history). I sent it off to Pentax and when they couldn't get the bottom off (easily) they sent it back and told me it was a write-off. Armed with that very disappointing fact I proceeded to see if I could get it open (after all, what did I have to loose).
So, I'm looking for some information: i) on the bottom of the LX motor drive there is a tripod mounting socket with a phillips head screw beside it; I have now managed to remove that screw. I assume that it must be removed to take the unit apart. ii) beside the electrical contact pins on the bottom there are two steel pins showing and I don't know if they are screws that can be removed or if they are just alignment points. (I can't see any evidence of a head even when scraping off the corrosion). Can anyone tell me whether these are screws or alignment pins? iii) Has anyone taken one of these motor drives apart? I'd love some information before I put this into surgery. Thanks, Len Zedel. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions.
