Been wrestling with mail server problems, my apologies if this is a repeat
After many false starts, and back and forths, I picked up a tablet yesterday. I ended up with an ASUS 32G TF300T transformer, with the dock/keypad from Fry's, and they matched the adorama price of $420. While I thought I was getting the dock without a battery, it turned out that it did indeed have a battery in it. the downside versus the Nexus 10 is that it has about half the resolution of the Nexus 10 at a bit less than the cost of the 16G unit, though it has the same as the Nexus 7 on a screen with twice the area. On the upside, this kit has 32G of internal storage, a micro SD slot in the tablet, an SD slot in the dock, an HDMI port, a USB port in the dock, A real keyboard, that can be removed, but which can protect the screen when it's on. Last night I was running it with 32G of internal flash, a micro SD in the tablet and a full sized SD in the keypad. I don't know if that means I can boost it to 96G storage or 160G (with 64GB cards). It's a bit more than I was looking to spend, but I think I'll be happy with it. the other downside for me is that it isn't immediately trivially easy to transfer files from a linux box to it, using MTP or PTP. But that is true for any Android v4 tablet. I haven't yet investigated raw converters for it either. Last night when I was using it in laptop configuration, I was surprised to find out convenient I found the touch screen to use, rather than the mouse for some tasks. This from a guy who felt that X-windows worked best as a way to run multiple text consoles simultaneously. Every so often I buy a toy that ends up being even cooler than I expected, this is definitely one of those times. The keyboard is a bit cramped, but when you look at the specs on this unit, not very long ago it would have been a very nice desktop machine. It's definitely one of those moments where I wonder where my flying car is, because it is obviously the twenty first century. -- Larry Colen via squirrelmail -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
