But I need a smartphone for my business, and bought my first, a Droid 2, a couple of years ago. I opted for the android phone in part because, at the time, Verizon didn't support iPhones, and because the Droid 2 had a slide out mini keyboard. At the store I had tried typing on the screen of another android phone without keyboard and found it nearly impossible. At first I used the slide out keyboard on the D2, but it was cumbersome and slow. I eventually learned to manage fairly well typing on the screen but frequently had to backtrack to correct mistakes. A few weeks ago I became eligible for a phone upgrade, so I stopped in at the Verizon store and tried several phones. I found that the iPhone 5 was much easier to type on than any of the android phones. Don't know why, but it's easier to hit the right letter on the touch screen. Now, I can buzz along rather well, with a hunt and peck method and have found that I can even manage the two thumb technique. I will probably continue to practice that. Sending e-mail from the phone is important to my journalism work, so it's worth the effort. Old fartedom has at least been delayed. > > > Joseph McAllister > [email protected] > -- > “ It is still true, as was first said many years ago, that people are the > only sophisticated computing devices that can be made at low cost by > unskilled workers!” > — Martin G.
