If a bird or two happened to be in their gullet as the mouth closed I'm sure
the whales wouldn't mind. The bird were there hoping to snag some of the
herring that were brought to the surface by the whales.

Love the birds. I'm sure the whales wouldn't intentionally eat them but
I'd guess they have to be pretty careful around that feeding frenzy. They
really add to the image.
