So, let me see if I have this straight. Japan is a nation, mostly, made
up of almost pathological germaphobes, each of whom is carrying around a
small personal trash bag , containing, God only knows what kind of
disgusting refuse, that anywhere else in the civilized or even
semi-civilized world, could be safely and mostly hygienically disposed
of in a public trash receptacle, so they can dispose of it at home? (I
could make some kind of reference to Sushi here but I won't, uummmm, Sushi).

It is hard to find a trash can in Japan.
Sometimes (like in this case), none is available even in the restrooms.
