Earlier this year, I caused major damage to my beloved Denon AVR-3803, a
former top-of-the-line surround receiver. One of those stupid mistakes a
professional audio engineer would never make... haha!

Disconnected some external equipment with an obvious earthing problem
and literally saw sparks fly. With the 3803 being DC-coupled from its
inputs through to the speaker terminals, there was a real carnage among
its semiconductor population.

The local official Denon repair place fixed it or a mere 130 euros.
Maybe you should find out if there's a Denon repair workshop in your
area before you bin it.

Thanks, Ralf.

I'm glad you were able to get yours repaired fairly cheaply. Mine is so old -- probably a little over 15 years old, in fact -- I'm not sure it would be cost-effective to have it repaired. The last time I had any issues with any Denon equipment, I had to ship it out to (if I recall correctly) New Jersey to get it repaired, and that's a pretty fair distance.

I do have a friend who might be able to fix it, but he's so busy, there's no telling when I'd ever see it again -- assuming it's worth repairing. I'll check into my options, though.
