We spend a lot here on alternatives. Ever hear of Solyndra?
as if that were a dirty word; China's government is lending an order of magnitude more to its solar firms, and trouncing the US in the PV market
We spent a lot on development of wind turbines, but most proposals have been stalled by environmental concerns (bird deaths) and objections on aesthetic grounds. New Jersey is now proposing off shore wind turbines.
after hydro, wind is by far the largest renewable energy source in the US, and it is growing faster than all but solar PV
i've fed my domestic electric habit with wind for about ten years (during which time i've also steadily decreased my consumption); granted it is not always wind in my wires, but it is done as offsets so that when i use electricity that doesn't come from wind, someone else (who doesn't pay the premium that i do) uses an equivalent portion of wind-sourced current later
i am not the only person who's willing to pay more for clean energy, and changing my habits; i'm committed to continuing to change them because i find seeing beyond immediate gratification gratifying
Unfortunately, it's fossil fuels or nukes. Name your poison.
