There's another effect that I've recently bumped up against: skin tones in shadow take on a magenta (or purple/blue) hue. I see a lot of shadows falling across skin (faces, necks, arms) in this image. The reason I bumped into this is because this effect will spoil attempts to mask skin by using pixel colours by missing shadowed areas.
