I really think that you can still recover your data before attempting a firmware update. With an ocz vertex 120GB reading at 80MB/s you can copy approx. 24GB in 5 minutes, meaning that you could still split the copy of the raw device and join the result later (with a hot plug/unplug between each raw copy).
