That can be the problem with rectilinear lenses.  When you really want
to emphasize the wideness, they tend to compress the image so that it
doesn't have the impact of the real scene.  I have found that the
fisheye view is more impacting and tends to show the wide-ness better.
The apparent distortion actually helps you recognize the expanse
better.
