It's a sculpture by Damien Hirst standing outside Tate Modern, where he has
an exhibition at the moment. It is a giant-scale steel model of the sort of
thing you see in schools, colleges and doctors' surgeries to show people
where it hurts.

There was a demonstation by about a hundred members of a republican
organisation by Tower Bridge, some of their banners invoking the spirit of
1793 - which probably went straight over most people's heads. Of course they
should have been invoking the spirit of 1649 - we're not French, after all,
and we started the fashion for beheading kings. As I passed the demo some
idiot draped in the Union Jack hit out at one of the demonstrators.
Remarkably stupid, but fortunately the republican didn't respond.
