There looks to be some pretty decent deals here: http://dealnews.com/c69/Computers/Peripherals/

I've had to move my office to another room. As such the old CRT that I've been using as a second monitor on my 24" iMac doesn't fit very comfortably on the table. What I want is something like a 24" whizbang LCD in portrait orientation for working on vertically formatted photos. Realistically, anything that works well enough for me to use it for all the menus and such, would make a huge difference. It seems that the most resolution I'm going to get for a reasonable amount of dinero (under $200) is 1920x1080. Damned HDTV specs, monitor resolution kept increasing until HDTV came along, now it's damn near impossible to get anything that isn't HDTV specs. There are a gazillion different technologies, and the specs aren't always clear on what is what. I think I want to avoid TN. I suspect that contrast ratios and the like will tell me a bit about what I'm looking for. Is IPS one of the key words to look for? I'm not quite sure what the difference between contrast ratio and dynamic contrast ratio is, and whether that matters for photography. I'm pretty sure I want, at a minimum VGA and DVI, hdmi might be nice if I were to ever connect it up to my camera. First question: Is anybody in the process of upgrading, and have a decent used monitor that I could get reasonably cheaply, including shipping? Second question: I've had people recommend Dell refurbished units as good value for the money. Looking on: http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/Online/InventorySearch.aspx?brandId=222806&c=us&cs=22&l=en&MODEL_DESC=ALL&s=dfh Dell Refurbished UltraSharp U2311H 23-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Display seems interesting. Third question: Better alternatives for under $200? Especially if they could be picked up locally rather than shipped? -- Larry Colen [email protected] sent from i4est
